Abstract
Solar domestic hot water systems are one of the known and common types of renewable energy and thermal energy storage applications. It is a common way to place phase change material in the tank in order to increase the thermal energy storage capacity of the hot water tanks used in solar domestic hot water systems. In this study, the effect of the location of encapsulated paraffin in the tank on thermal energy storage performance was investigated experimentally. Paraffin capsules were placed at a distance of 0, 200, 400, 600 and 800 mm from the tank bottom. As a result of the study, it was observed that the placement of paraffin capsules from the position where the hot water zone started inside the tank increased the hot water output from the tank. When the capsules were placed at a distance of 400 mm from the bottom of the tank, 639 liters of hot water were obtained from the tank. If the position of the paraffin capsules was 0 mm, 619 liters of hot water was obtained. While the amount of hot water obtained up to 400 mm increased, the amount of hot water obtained from the tank decreased after 600 mm.
