Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to investigate the production and properties of functionally graded flake-Al3Ti reinforced composites. Using commercial Al-Ti master alloys, flake-Al3Ti structures were spontaneously formed in liquid aluminum by in-situ technique. Centrifugal casting technique was used for functional grading of composites and final shapes. The results showed that the composites produced had two different regions, which were the reinforced with Al3Ti-particles and not-reinforced. While the reinforcement ratio in Al3Ti -reinforced regions was about 19% by weight, it was found to be almost zero in the non-reinforced regions. A significant increase in the hardness values of the composites was observed with adding Al3Ti phase into matrix.
