The Sustainable Management of Soil and Water Resources in Konya Kadınhanı-Beykavağı District Irrigation Cooperative

In this research, the soil and irrigation water features of Konya Kadınhanı Beykavağı Street Irrigation Cooperative irrigation area were investigated. The effectiveness of the cooperative on the sustainable management of waterandon and farmers, the management problems of farmers and irrigation methods applied are determined by a questionnaire and solutions were offered on a scientific basis. . According the result of research; irrigation water is classified as C2S1, soil texture is classified as loam (L). According to the results of the questionnare evaluations, it is determined that the farmers are not aware of the quality of the irrigation water and the soil features. Moreover; 59% of them don’t have enough information about available soil water capacity. , 77 % of the farmers find the price of irrigation water reasonable, 45 % of them express that global warming and drought news affect their behaviour occasionally against water use. At the end of the research it is advised to employ an agricultural engineer working in the area of irrigation in order to increase the water use efficiency and crop productivity. If the cooperative administration helps in supplying the farmers with the necessary agricultural equipment, machinery, fertilizer, and pesticidesetc.., it would be helpful for the development of the area. Also, it is understood that the farmers who benefit from the cooperative, need training and publishing with consultancy service that works efficiently about irrigation.
