Abstract
In the study, it was aimed to determine boron content of Pistachio orchards’ soils and to reveal relationsships among some properties of the soil. For this purpose, a total of 30 soil samples were taken from two different depths (0-30 and 30-60 cm) at 15 points to represent the soils of pistachio orchards. Texture, pH, salt, calcium carbonate equivalent (CCE) and plant-available boron content (PABC) of the soils were determined in the samples. According to the results; the pH of soils were within 7.87-8.48 range; soluble salts 0.003-0.103%; clay, sand, and silt fractions of soil texture 26.32-61.04%, 8.96-51.68% and, 18.72-41.44%, respectively; CCE of 27.15-73.56% and PABC 0.18-1.26 mg kg^-1. The PABC of Gaziantep province pistachio orchards were found to be 53.3% ( 0.4 mg kg^-1) very low, 46.7% (0.5-0.9 mg kg^-1) low at the depth of 0-30 cm. 73.3, 20.0 and 6.7% the soils were classified as very low, deficient and 20.0 and adequate in 30-60 cm depth.. There was a negative correlation between PABC and pH. In addition, a negative significant relationship was found between the soluble salt contents (SSC) of the soils and the lime and sand contents, whereas a significant positive relation was found between the SSC and clay fraction. It was determined that boron deficiency was found in almost all of these soils. Boron fertilization is recommended to improve the production and quality of Pistachio in these soils.
