  • Abstract
Market, which is the most important element of today s free market economy, shows structural differences in many respects. The behavior of the firm and the determination of the price depends on the market structure. According to the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) approach, there is a causal relationship between the market structure and the behavior and economic performance of firms in that market. One of the most well-known and frequently used indicators of market structure is concentration. Concentration generally refers to the fact that the production or sales on the market are controlled by a small number of companies. The closeness of a market to a monopoly or perfect competition can also be analyzed with the help of concentration ratio. It seems that a large number of indices are developed in the literature to determine the concentration ratio. In this study, the main points of these indices are summarized. In addition, using automotive sales data 2004-2017 from cars and light commercial vehicles in Turkey, an overall analysis of the market is made by calculating N-Firm concentration ratios (CR4,CR 8) and the Herfindahl-Hirschman index.
