Abstract
Ethics has been discussed over the years in social sciences at individual, group, business or society levels regardless of unit of analysis. Intrinsic, complicated, confusing, relative and questionable nature of ethics gives rise to further attempts for examining the concept throughly. This situation also brings difficulties of understanding and measuring not only the concept itself but also different forms of it such as business ethics, codes of ethics at workplace, ethics in leadership. Ethical leadership, in relation to business conceptualizaton, is defined as the sum of ethical behaviors of a manager and considered as an answer to ‘what is the degree of being ethical?’ question for managers by academics. An increasing number of attempts to answer these kind of questions provide a basis for measuring ethical leadership and creating new scales. By using Kalshoven, De Hoogh and Den Hartog’s (2011) ‘Ethical Leadership at Work – ELW’ scale, this study includes a research on employees’ perceptions about whether their managers are ethical. The questionnaire was conducted to 175 white-collar employees and results showed that there is a moderate level of ethical leadership regarding employees’ perceptions.
