Abstract
In this study, the aim is to analyze the relationship between minimum wages and economic growth. With this aim, real minimum wage and economic growth variables are considered for the period of 1983-2014 in Turkey. A statistically significant and positive bidirectional relationship from the economic growth rate to the minimum wage is found in this study in which TY-VAR causality test is used. Thus, it can be said that the increase in economic growth has a possitive effect on the minimum wage. However, the increase in the minimum wage does not have an impact on the economic growth. The low levels of minimum wage shows that individuals can not afford their needs. Although the real wages of the individuals have increased, it can be said that this situation does not effect on consumption expenditures.
