Abstract
The aim of this study is; to determine empirically the internal variables at bank level that affect the profitability of Turkish deposit banks for the period of 2009–2017. In the study, return on asset variable is employed as a measure of profitability of deposit banks. According to the findings there is no relationship between bank age variable and profitability at the level of all banks; it has a negative relationship at the level of all banks. While the capital adequacy ratio positively affects the sector, the lending level shows a positive and significant relationship at the whole sector level. It was also determined that there is a negative and significant relationship between personnel expenses and profitability at the sector level.
