THE METHODS OF PROPERTY OWNERSHIP IN KASTAMONU: AUCTION-SALE-EXCHANGE AND GRANT (1673-1702)

The practices of property ownership and exhange of property in the societies are as old as the history of humanity. The subject of this study is how these practices were carried out between 1673 and 1702 in Kastamonu, which is an Ottoman provincial city. The sale, auction, exchange and grant from the methods of property ownership wil be discussed in the years mentioned specially in Kastamonu. People who want to sell, exchange or grant must first have applied to the court and the other side also be present in court. For this reason, the records are full of examples including such practices. From this point of view, the source of study is the Court Records of Kastamonu. While registering documents related to the methods of property ownership in records, a specific systematic order has been followed. This order and the methods and differences applied in the purchase-sale of property and the exchange of properties are the issues to be discussed in this study.
