Abstract
International Labor Organization defines child labor as employment of the children at work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to mental development. The literature points out poverty, unemployment, demand for child labor, lack of proper inspection, traditional cultural perspective, excess population as the basic causes of child labor in Turkey. This study aims to reveal the structure of the households with children working in the market. In this context, children below 15 and their families are studied using the data of TurkStat’s Income and Living Conditions Survey for 2017. The logistic regression results show that having an unemployed household head, a female household head, a single household head, a household head holding secondary education degree or less and a household head suffering from a chronic disease increase the probability of existence a working child in that household.
