Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to examine the effects of tourism on environmental pollution and to evaluate the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis considering the possible parabolic effects of tourism indicators on carbon emissions as well as linear effects for 22 OECD countries in the 1995-2014 observation range. On the other hand, two different models are established and the effects of economic growth and foreign direct investments on environmental pollution are investigated by GMM analysis. As a result of the study, it is concluded that while the arrivals of international tourists increase carbon emissions, the square of the arrivals of tourists decrease environmental pollution, and accordingly, the EKC hypothesis is valid. It is concluded that the coefficient of the variable of international tourism receipts is negative, and the square of international tourism receipts is positive. Therefore, it is concluded that there is a U-shaped relationship between tourism revenues and environmental destruction. On the other hand, it is revealed that economic growth causes environmental destruction in both models, but foreign direct investments cause environmental pollution in a single model.
