  • Abstract
The US has provided aid to Turkey and has developed various projects in some rural areas of Turkey in the 1950s. Therefore, modernization, as imposed by the US, has caused some transformations in the social life starting from the village. Fakir Baykurt, as a village boy, has concentrated on the problems of the village in the process of modernization in Turkey. This article presents the parallelisms detected in the Baykurt’s novel of Amerikan Sargısı with the modernization in the 1950s. Baykurt criticizes the Turkish-American relations and the Americanist policies pursued by the state, by sometimes teasing the change in the village due to American aid and projects. The article examines the US-led modernization, how it is perceived by the villagers, the transformation in the village through the aforementioned novel of Baykurt.
