Abstract
This study examines the discourse of palingenesis which establishes the mythical core of fascism. In this sense, the main purpose of this study is to analyze the content of the palingenesis discourse in the countries where fascism was dominant after World War I. The analysis of the palingenesis myth is of crucial importance to understand the rise of fascism and its social support. The present study is based on the thesis that the palingenesis discourse was constructed to mobilize the masses in line with national goals yet again at the end of a process called collapse/ destruction. In this context, it is argued in this study that the palingenesis myth was built over history and culture in Italy whereas it was constructed over racial dominance in Germany. The study is limited to the investigation of the German and Italian cases. The para-fascist regimes were not included in the study due to the fact that they failed to either take the power or to remain in power long enough to transform society collectively.
