  • Abstract
    The textbooks used in the teaching of singing in music lessons during secondary school studies, children’s songs mainly consist of the modal. However, because of the lifestyles and folk music culture and popular culture interact pupils, therefore, has moved away from folk music. Of these conditions has a negative impact on the level of motivation. In this context, the aim of the research in the teaching of singing in music lessons in secondary schools using popular music the effects of music based on the opinions of teacher candidates to determine. To determine the status of the research is a descriptive study. Also the collection of data and the interpretation of the data obtained in terms of a qualitative study. The study group in the academic year 2015-2016 Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Department of Music Education of fourth grade students who attend school experience lessons. To be implemented in secondary schools, in the form of popular music composed for four to the children s song was determined. Harmony and popular music and popular musical instruments, using accompany has been prepared. In the aftermath, using this accompany and songs located in the teacher s guidebook, teaching children s songs to sing with was built. At the end of the application the opinions of music teacher candidates were taken through an oral interview. As a result of research, positive changes in students singing skills have been observed.
