RELATIONS OF 5^TH GRADE STUDENTS’ SOCIAL SKILLS WITH SELF-ESTEEM AND FOCUS OF CONTROL

Abstract
In this research, 5th grade students’ (positive and negative social skills) social skill levels, gender, birth order, parents education, family s income level, self-esteem and focus of control was studied. The sample of this research constitutes 460 students. At the research, Personal Information Form, Matsons Evaluation of Children s Social Skill Scale; Coopersmith s Self-Esteem Inventory; and Nowickistrickland Locus of Control Point Scale was used. In this research T-Test, One Way Anova Analysis, Scheffe Test and Pearson Momentler Crossing Correlation Technique was used. In the result of the research, it has been seen that girls prosocial behaviours are higher than boys and boys negative social behaviours are higher than girls . By the birth order; no significant difference can be found between prosocial behaviours and negative social behaviours. As the result of the research, between prosocial behaviors and parents income and education levels. There is significant difference but between negative social behaviours and parents income and education levels no significant difference has been seen. There is also a significant and positive relation, between prosocial behaviours and self-esteem level and there is a significant and negative relation between prosocial behaviours and self-esteem levels. As a result there is a significant and negative relation between prosocial behaviours and locus of control level, but there is NOT significant and positive relation between negative social behaviours and locus of control level.
