Abstract
In this study, the effect of using the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) strategy to teach the some subjects of General Biology Laboratory Applications-II course on pre-service science teachers science process skills and academic achievement were investigated. Mixed method research design was used in the study. The study was conducted with the sophore preservice science teachers (N: 58) who were attending Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University and participated in all the experiments in the spring semester of 2015-2016 academic year. The data of the study were collected through the POE form and the achievement test for each experiment during the threatment process. The data obtained from the POE form were examined in terms of frequency and percentage values and presented in tables and graphs. The findings of the achievement tests were analyzed by conducting the dependent samples t-test. As a result of the research, it was determined that the pre-service science teachers progressed weekly in terms of science process skills of prediction, observation and explanation. In addition it was understood that this strategy has a positive effect on learning.
