Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of keyword method as a mnemonic on developing vocabulary knowledge of students. Study group of this research consists of two classes fifth-grade primary school students in Bucak district of Burdur province. The study has been carried out by using pre-test post-test control grouped quasi-experimental model. To determine academic achievement levels of students, academic achievement test which consists of 25 items has been used. The obtained data have been analyzed by using the independent group s T-test analysis technique in SPSS packaged software. According to the results of the analysis, there has been a meaningful difference in support of the experimental group. As a result of retention test, it has been found that there was no meaningful difference between the post-test and retention test results of the experimental group. So it can be said that learnings of experimental group students are permanent. In this sense, using keyword method in English lesson can be suggested.
