    THE CHANGES OF STANDARDS IN THE 2018 SCIENCE CURRICULUM AND STEM INTEGRATION

  • Abstract
    The purpose of this study is to reveal i) the differences between the science curriculum piloted with the 5th grade classrooms in 2017-2018 and the 3rd-8th grade science curriculum published in January 2018, ii) the differences between the science curriculum of 2013 and 2018 in terms of the arrangement and number of standards as well as the amount of time assigned for each standard, iii) the number of standards related to STEM, as well as the amount of time for those standards, in 2018 science curriculum. Qalitative research was used in the study. Document analysis was used based on the analysis, the findings of the study revealed (i) the differences between the science curriculum piloted with the 5th grade classrooms in 2017-2018 and the 3rd-8th grade science curriculum published in January 2018, (ii) the differences between the science curriculum of 2013 and 2018 in terms of the arrangement and number of standards as well as the amount of time assigned for each standard, (iii) the units whose grade levels and replacement were rearranged, (iv) the decrease on the number of standards in 5th, 7th, and 8th grade science curriculum, the increase on the number of standards in 3rd and 6th grade science curriculum, and the constancy in 4th grade science curriculum.
