TEACHERS’ VIEWS REGARDING OF PROCESS ADAPTATION TO SCHOOL IN THE PRESCHOOL PERIOD

Abstract
It is aimed to investigate the teachers’ views regarding the problems encountered and the strategies applied within the process of students’ adaptation to school in the preschool period. In addition it is attempted to determine whether there is a difference between the strategies applied in public schools and private schools within the process of adaptation to school. For this purpose the research was carried out through typical case work. The study group of the research consists of 10 preschool teachers, five of whom work in public school and the other five teachers work in private schools. Within the research the data was obtained through semi-structured interview technique. The teachers stated that they made activities mostly about “gaining trust” regarding adaptation process. Most of the teachers uttered that the most important factor within the adaptation process is making interesting activities and meeting activities. Concerning the question about the problems encountered within the adaptation process, the teachers stated that mostly the family factor was effective. While over protective-tolerant family attitude was encountered in public schools, over protective attitude was encountered in private institutions together with indecisive attitude.
