  • Abstract
    In this study it was aimed to examine the views of classroom teachers towards teaching music in primary classrooms. The study was carried out with a phenomenological method within qualitative research approach. The study group consists of 10 classroom teachers. Semi-structured interview technique was used for data collection. Interviews were tape recorded and transcribed into written documents later. The data obtained from the interviews was analyzed through constant comparison method which is one of the forms of content analysis. The findings were categorized thematically, presented in tables and supported by the quotations from teachers. Results of the study illustrate that music education they obtained during faculty years was not adequate for teachers. It was found that classroom teachers face various difficulties during teaching music in primary classes. It was suggested that it is necessary to provide classroom teachers with in-service training in teaching music in primary schools. In addition it is recommended that they need to be taught playing other musical instruments apart from a record (block flute) during their university education and specialist music teachers should give music classes to pupils in primary schools.
