Abstract
This research aimed to explore the preservice teachers’ motivation toward teaching profession and the changes in their motivation. Survey method was used in the present study. The study took place in a state university of Turkey’s Aegean Sea Region. The sample was selected using by convenience sampling and a total of 300 (112 males and 186 females) preservice teachers studying pedagogic formation program were enrolled. The data was collected through the motivation scale (Factor Influencing Teaching Choice [FIT-Choice) which was developed by Watt and Richardson (2007). The data was analyzed by means of SPSS 21. Mean, standard deviation, and repeated ANOVA were used. The research results indicated that there was a decrease in teaching motivation and teaching perception of the preservice teachers at the end of the pedagogic formation program. There was not a statistically significant difference in perception dimension of the preservice teachers between the beginning of the program and end of the program. However, there was a statistically significant difference in motivation dimension of the preservice teachers between the beginning of the program and end of the program. The findings showed that pedagogic formation program does not make contribution to the preservice teachers’ motivation and perception of teaching profession.
