VOCABULARY ELEMENTS IN SEVIM AK’S BOOKS

Abstract
Purpose of the research is to identify the formulaic vocabulary elements (proverbs, idioms, reduplications, mold words) in the child books of author Sevim Ak and examine how they reflect the richness of vocabulary. This study is a document review study based on the tradition of qualitative research. Descriptive analysis method was used to analyze the data. The data source of the research is the five child books (Vanilya Kokulu Mektuplar, Sicak Cikolatali Yolculuklar, Babamin Gozleri Kedi Gozleri, Ucurtmam Bulut Simdi, Cilekli Dondurma) written by Sevim Ak. As a result of the research, 1202 formulaic vocabulary items were found in five child books examined. Of the formulaic vocabulary items found in books, 4 are proverbs, 625 are idioms, 501 are reduplications, and 72 are mold words. It can be said that according to these results the books that analyzed are rich in conveying the details and possibilities of expression of our language. In addition, a simple language is preferred in the narratives of the books.
