Abstract
This study aimed at examining vocational and technical high school 12th-grade students’ perception of vocational colleges and vocational education. The study was conducted in five vocational and technical high schools (VTHS) located in Çanakkale in the first semester of the 2017-2018 academic year. The research sample consisted of 428 students in these VTHS. The Perception Scale toward Vocational Technical Education (PStVTE) developed by the researcher was used for data collection. In the analyses that were made for internal consistency, Cronbach’s alfa value was estimated as 0.82. The descriptive survey model was employed in the study. The data obtained in the study were analyzed via the Mann Whitney U-test and the Kruskal-Wallis test. According to the results of the study, students have positive perceptions of vocational colleges, although they have a lot of information deficiencies. As a result, the students stated that there is a lack of promotion and orientation works toward vocational education. Also, these students stated that sufficient important is not given to vocational education. The perceptions of the students regarding vocational and technical education differ statistically according to having relatives that graduated from a vocational college, recognition of vocational colleges and the fields in these colleges.
