Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the mathematics literacy self-efficacy levels of pre-service primary teachers. Screening model was used in the study. 221 pre-service primary teachers from Sakarya University, Faculty of Education, Department of Primary Teaching participated in the study. The data were collected by using “Mathematics Literacy Self-Efficacy Scale” developed by Özgen and Bindak (2008) and personal information form. Data were analyzed using quantitative data analysis techniques. Primary teachers are responsible for educating his / her future students to be mathematics literate. Therefore, the level of mathematics literacy among pre-service primary teachers is found to be slightly below the intermediate level in this study, which is not an acceptable level. The level of mathematics literacy self-efficacy of pre-service primary teachers was found to differ significantly according to gender, grade level, academic grade point average and attitude towards mathematics. Learning environments should be planned and the course contents should be updated in this way, which allows pre-service primary teachers to associate the topics with daily life and communicate using the language of mathematics.
