Abstract
Understanding the richness and importance of the teaching profession can be realized by examining the term teacher. There are very few studies conducted with pre-school teacher candidates. This study was necessary to eliminate this deficiency in the field and to emphasize the importance of this issue. The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of pre-school teacher candidates about the teaching profession by means of metaphors. This study was carried out with 110 pre-school teacher candidates. 94% of the participants were female and 16% were male. Prospective teachers were asked to complete a semi-structured interview form. This is a qualitative study in which phenomenological design was used. In the analysis of the data, content analysis technique was used from qualitative research methods. The data obtained from the interviews were categorized by coding and analyzing the logical bases. A total of 47 metaphors were developed. The metaphor that has been widely used has been the parent metaphor.
