Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the touch math technique, which is presented with constant time delay method, is effective on mentally retarded individuals or not. Besides, individuals, generalizing in different settings, permanency ten and twenty days later after the end of training and social validity were analysed. Three students with mental retardation were included in the study. The study was conducted as a multiple probe design with probe session across subject models, which is one of the single subject designs. The dependent variable of the study was mentally retarded students’ learning subtraction. The independent variable of the study was the touch math technique based on the constant time delay method. Application process was organized by the researcher as checking, teaching, follow-up and generalization sessions. All the sessions were applied with one-on-one instruction. The findings of the study showed that the touch math technique based on the constant time delay method was effective on the teaching of subtraction. Besides, it can be said that the ability acquired can be maintained ten and twenty days later after the end of training and generalized for different individuals and settings, and socially valid when the teachers’ answers are analysed.
