Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate secondary school students school attachment level according to their demographic variables and the characteristics of their schools. The study group consists of 1011 students studying in 14 different secondary schools in Tokat city center during the 2017-2018 academic year. As a data collection tool, “Student Information Form”, “School Characteristics Form” and “School Attachment Scale for Children and Adolescents” which was developed by Hill (2006) to assess the levels of children and adolescents school attachment and adapted to Turkish by Savi (2011) were used in the study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation, T-test, ANOVA test of parametric tests, and Mann-Whitney U test of the non-parametric tests were used. According to study results it was found that students respectively displayed commitment to their teachers, friends and schools. It wasdetermined that students’ different commitment dimensions and Toplam commitment levels showed significant differences according to gender, age, class level, education level of parents, income level, number of siblings, location of school, and the availability of guidance service and gym in schools. As a result, there are many variables that affect commitment to secondary school. From these quantitative variables, it is recommended to examine thoroughly the school life and the quality of school life.
