Abstract
This study aims to examine the correlation between pre-service teachers’ online information searching strategies (OISS) and educational internet use self-efficacy (EIUS) beliefs. The study also examines pre-service teachers’ OISS in terms of department and gender. The relational survey model was used in the study. The participants involved 293 freshmen, pre-service teachers. As data collection instruments, OISS Inventory and EIUS Beliefs Scale were used. The data were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney, and Spearman’s rank correlation tests. The results of the study indicate that there is a moderate and positive correlation between EIUS beliefs and evaluation and problem-solving strategies. The results also indicate that there is a low and positive correlation between EIUS beliefs and purposeful thinking, discrimination, and control strategies. There is no correlation between EIUS beliefs and disorientation and trial-and-error strategies. It is found that there is not a significant difference in OISS according to the department and gender. Besides, results show that online searching strategies of male and female students were above the mean; only in the control sub-dimension, male students have a higher level of strategy than female students. Based on the findings, it is suggested that pre-service teachers should be informed about access to current and accurate academic resources by using appropriate methods and techniques.
