THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE PARENTS OF GIFTED STUDENTS FROM SCIENCE AND ART CENTER AND FULFILMENT LEVELS OF THESE EXPECTATIONS

This research aims to explore Science and Art Centre parents’ expectations and the level at which their expectations are met. This is a survey-model descriptive study. The population of the research consists of 220 parents whose children are enrolled in Kahramanmaraş Science and Art Centre (SAC) during the 2017 and 2018 academic year. The research sample holds 51 parents who filled in the questionnaire. The data were collected through the The expectations of the parents who have gifted children from SACs and the fulfilment level of these expectations questionnaire” developed by the researchers in order to identify parents’ expectations from SACs and the fulfilment level of these expectations. The research data were analyzed through using SPSS 21 package program and content analysis. Research results have suggested that parents expectation from SAC is very high, but the fulfilment level of these expectations is medium. There has also been found a significant difference between parents’ expectations and fulfilment level of these expectations. The results have shown that the problems mostly encountered by parents are education and training, communication, personal, the transportation and physical infrastructure of SAC.
