THE REFLECTION OF SOCIAL VALIDITY THESIS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION IN TURKEY

This study aims to examine the collection and presentation of social validity data in postgraduate thesis conducted in special education field. This study is considered significant because it presents some clues to improve the social validity concept to increase the research quality of the studies especially using single subject model. The aim of the study is to determine the evaluating social validity concept approach of the postgraduate thesis conducted in special education field. In accordance with this purpose, social validity data were examined according to the type of the thesis, year they were conducted, the social validity data collection tools, and the participants. In this study, the single subject research model thesis which were conducted in the special education field between 2008 and 2018, and which are uploaded to the national thesis database and accessible were analyzed according to their handling and presenting social validity concept. The descriptive survey model was used to summarize the frequencies based on the research questions. The results revealed that the handling and presentation of the social validity concept in the thesis do not differ according to the year, data collection tools, participants and the level of the thesis. The results also suggested that from the social data validity evaluation approaches, almost all the postgraduate thesis chose subjective evaluation approach. It was found that the social validity data was collected from the directly affected group by using mostly semi structured interview forms.
