    EXAMINING THE DISTRUBITION OF TEACHING AND RESEARCH RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE CONTEXT OF RESEARCH UNIVERSITIES

  • Abstract
    The main purpose of this study was to present the views of academicians related to the arrangement of teaching and research responsibilities in the context of constructing research universities. In the study, multiple case study design, which is one of the case study designs of qualitative research methods, was employed. The convenience sampling technique and criterion sampling technique which were purposeful sampling techniques were used to determine the study group. The study group consisted of three professor, seven associate professors, three assistant professors. The views of academicians were collected by interview technique. A semi structured interview form was prepared to present the views of academicians related to arrangement of teaching and research responsibilities in the context of constructing research universities. The interviews were executed by the means of the semi structured interview form. In the research, content analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from the interview. NVIVO 11 Qualitative Analysis Program was used for the content analysis. In the result of the analysis, it was pointed out that academicians should give lectures, but they should have research-oriented workload and research and teaching complemented each other, academicians had hardly no time for researching therefore their lecture loads should be decreased and their responsibilities of teaching and research could be arranged according to choice and desire of academician. According to the findings, it can be suggested that steps can be taken to decrease lecture loads of academicians’ in regulations.
