Abstract
This study was conducted to determine which cultural elements were referred regarding domestic, foreign and universal culture in the first 50 best-seller translated children’s picture book by taking should come after full stop the topics/articles included in the ”Culture Elements Detection Form”. The model of the study was descriptively designed. Document analysis technique was used for data analysis. The universe of this study consists of translated children s picture books,which are sold in a book sale website, for preschool and elementary school students.This website’s 50 bestseller translated children’s picture bookswere procured and analysed. Cultural elements identifiedas a result of the analysis were coded and listed under appropriate themes. In the research results, it is seen that the translated children s picture books contain more foreign elements than universal values and do not contain enough elements of Turkish culture. It must be taken into account that children’s picture books are important tools within the context of cultural transfer for the children, misuse of relative clause with many quality/poor quality books and take the heroes, their lives, beliefs, thoughtsand behaviours in these books as models. During the process of book selection, cultural transfer as well as many peritextual elements should be taken into account. With regards to translated books, the books, which at least provides universal values rather than the ones in which the foreign cultural elements are dominant, should be chosen.
