Abstract
The aim of the current study was to explore the relationships between university students online information searching strategies, critical thinking dispositions, and their decision-making styles. The participants of the study consisted of 370 students at a university in Turkey. 225 of the participants are female and 145 are males. The data in the study were collected using the Online Information Searching Strategy Inventory, Decision-Making Style Scale and UF/EMI Critical Thinking Disposition Instrument. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data collected from university students. According to findings in the current study, behavioral, procedural and meta-cognitive domain of online information search strategies were significantly predicted by critical thinking dispositions and decision making styles. The Innovativeness dimension of the critical thinking dispositions was found to be the most important variable that predicted behavioral, procedural, and meta-cognitive domains. Rational decision-making style, innovativeness and cognitive maturity were found to be the predictors of meta-cognitive strategies. This finding indicates that university students with higher disposition to think critically can better interpret and evaluate the information on the Internet.
