    BENEFITTING LEGENDS VIA DIGITAL STORYTELLING ON TEACHING SOCIAL STUDIES: A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

  • Abstract
    Nowadays, written texts are not getting enough attention of the students. To solve this problem, digital storyteling can be used which can make texts more interesting with sound, visuals, cartoons and slogans. The main aim of this study is to evaluate the use of legends via digital storytelling in social studies teaching based on the primary school students’views. The study was carried out on 37 primary school students (20 female, 17 male). The diaries in which the students recorded their views during the implementation process and the legends written by them at the end of the application were used as data collection tools. As a result of the analysis of the legends written by primary school students, a total of 6 main themes were reached: social elements, emotions, geographical elements, natural disasters, extraordinary elements and weather events. It has been determined that the social studies course includes opinions about the use of digital stories and legends in academic and affective context. The views expressed in the academic context are consistent with the learning outcomes associated with digitalstories and legends. It has been concluded that in addition to their contributions to popularizing social studies in the affective context, attracting their interest in literary genres such as legends and digital narratives in the context of effective use of technology attracted students attention. In the light of the results obtained, it can be suggested to benefit from legends through digital storytelling in social studies course.
