    Teacher Perceptions Regarding Teaching History Subjects in Social Studies Lessons

  • Abstract
    In this study, in which the results of the research on the transfer of history topics in social studies courses to students are compiled, the methods used in the process of transferring history topics, which are aimed to be gained to students, in line with the curriculum, and the problems encountered and solution suggestions will be shared. For this purpose, the case study model will be used in the study and the qualitative research method will be used. In the study, 20 Social Studies Teachers working in secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education constitute the members of the study group whose opinions were consulted in obtaining the data. A semi-structured interview form was prepared by the researcher in order to get the opinions of the Social Studies Teachers who were used to obtain the data in this study, which was supported by the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of İnönü University with the number SBA-2019-1860. The data obtained from the interview form were subjected to content and descriptive analysis, divided into themes and given in tables. The themes obtained from the views of Social Studies Teachers were grouped, coded and placed in tables. Examples of exemplified views regarding the themes in the tables are also included. Outstanding examples of these views were detailed by the researcher. In the light of the data obtained from the study, a general judgment was reached by processing a lot of information from the teaching method of the teachers to the expectations of the students and teachers in terms of the achievements that the students should acquire in the social studies course. Looking at the results of the study, it can be said that social studies teachers have different views. In this direction, many original suggestions can be developed regarding the transfer of history subjects in social studies courses.
