Abstract
The population structure does not only have an important place in the development of a settlement, but also creates a determining effect on the spatial development, socio-economic structure and administrative structure of the city. The study area was recorded as Tekirdağ Central District until 2012. With the Metropolitan Law No. 6360, which entered into force in the Official Gazette on 06 December 2012 and took its final form with the amendment made on 22 March 2013, it became a metropolitan city and took the name Süleymanpaşa. As of 2020, there are 73 neighborhoods connected to the study area. While the population of some of these in the city center exceeds 30 thousand, the population decreases to 30 people as they move away from the center. In this study, the historical development of the population, rural-urban population characteristics, gender ratio and age structure of the district between 1927-2020 were examined, and the population density of 2000, 2010 and 2020 according to the neighborhoods was analyzed using the Kernel Density method. As a result of the analyzes, it has been determined that the population density of the district per km² was 12586,8 in 2000, 14554,3 in 2010, 15672,9 in 2020 and the population developed in the southeast direction.
