Abstract
The electromagnetic performance of an automotive alternator is calculated under an arbitrary electrical load on its stator winding. The use of multipoint constraints on a three-dimensional finite-element model allows the stator current load to have any phase angle and magnitude and the rotor to have any position. The output voltage under an arbitrary load is calculated from analyses at ten rotor positions and is shown to agree closely with the measured voltage
