Abstract :
Pulsed induction is an acceleration mechanism based on the repulsive force exerted on a conductor magnetically coupled with a pulse coil. Because this process is inductive no direct mechanical or electrical connection with the projectile is required. It has resulted in the highest acceleration ever achieved: 2 gram ring to 5 km/s in 1 cm length by Bondaletov, USSR. In principle this process can be extended by multi-staging to produce even higher velocities at increased efficiencies. We have modelled this process and demonstrated experimentally the feasibility of synchronizing a multiple stage pulsed induction accelerator.
