Abstract :
Magnetostriction harmonics in single grains of grain-oriented 3.25% silicon-iron are measured in directions both longitudinal and transverse to the rolling direction. The measurements are for compressive stresses in the range 0-6 MPa in the [001] direction and show an approximate 2:1 relationship predicted by theory for first, second and third harmonics at flux densities typically found in power transformers. The onset of high longitudinal and transverse magnetostriction harmonics under compressive stress occurs at the inception of fine pattern transverse domain structure.
