Abstract :
An optical fibre with tin oxide doped core was fabricated by an improved MCVD process whose transmission loss at 1.2 ¿m is 6 dB/km. The refractive indices and thermal expansion coefficients of SnO2-doped silica glasses and this loss property suggest SnO2 dopant may be successfully used as an alternative dopant for optical fibre.
