Abstract :
Extremely large magneto-optical Kerr-effects are reported for a variety of metallic uranium-compounds with Curie-temperatures around 200 K. The polar Kerr-rotation is shown to reach 9.1 degrees for USb
0.8Te
0.2. The maximum value of the efficiency

is found to be about 0.05. This large magneto-optical response is attributed to

interband transitions.
