Abstract :
The construction and performance of the Grenoble hybrid superconducting magnet is described. The hybrid magnet has two superconducting coils. The outer is designed in the commonly used pancake configuration; the inner is wire-wound and exposes the larger side of the rectangular wire to the coolant in order to increase heat transfer area. After a brief discussion of the evolution and testing procedures for the magnet, it is reported that a DC magnetic field of 31.4 T was generated.
