Abstract :
A multiplexing-demultiplexing system for a 1.7 Gbit/s link on a single-mode optical fibre has been implemented. The letter first describes the system architecture employed, in order to simplify the technological problems. Details of the electronic circuits used are given next: silicon MSI and cell arrays for the lower-speed stages, GaAs discrete MESFETs and ICs in the high-speed stage.
