Abstract :
The performance of a 1500 nm optical repeater using a low-reflectivity (travelling-wave) semiconductor laser amplifier is reported. At 140 Mbit/s, a maximum fibre-to-fibre gain of 20 dB was measured. In a system experiment, a repeater gain of 18 dB was achieved, with a bit error rate of 10¿9.
