Abstract :
Various possible strategies for solving coupled nonlinear thermomagnetic problems in axisymmetric or axiperiodic geometries are compared. Three methods are considered: The quasi-axisymmetric approach, finite-element discretization, and time-domain discretization. The formulation of the problem and the finite-element discretization are derived, different possible coupling strategies are described, different possible coupling strategies are described, and results obtained in the simulation of a thermomagnetic transient in a Tokamak coil are reviewed and discussed
