Abstract :
The behavior of a cantilever beam in a time-varying magnetic field was studied by coupled electromagnetic and structural analysis. The motion of a thin metal plate in a time-varying magnetic field was experimentally measured and analyzed. The model was solved as an eddy-current problem by 2-D and 3-D finite-element methods and the force distribution on the plate was calculated. Using the results, the structural analysis was performed with adopting a standard package. The experimental and the numerical results did not agree well. The differences were due to the difficulty of detecting the very small motion and the accuracy of calculating the local force distribution
