Abstract :
Experimental investigations of liquid helium heat transfer from a model of a cable in conduit conductor are reported. The model consists of a 19 element stainless steel tubing bundle contained within a rectangular cross section conduit. The experiment involves resistively heating the bundle with a constant amplitude heat pulse, while recording the time variation of the temperature within the conductors and helium. Three test sections were studied each having a different spacing between the elements, δ. Results reported here are for bath temperatures 4.2, 2.5 and 1.8 K with applied pressure p : 100 kPa (1 atm).
