Abstract :
The need to back off on weapons modernization and expansion owing to economic limitations is discussed. The importance of a clear strategy for bringing defense spending within realistic limits without damaging US preparedness is argued. Some elements that could be part of such a strategy are examined. The fight to save the B-2 (stealth) bomber is highlighted. The role of technology and the impact of events in Europe are considered.<>
