Wide-bandwidth, sharp-cutoff bandpass filter for WDM transmission

Abstract :
A new interference bandpass filter for use in optical multi/demultiplexers is presented. This filter is a 37-layer, 5-cavity filter made of TiO2 and SiO2. The cavity layers are the 4th, 11th, 19th, 27th and 34th layers. A fabricated filter (centre wavelength at 1.3 ¿m) had a 77 nm bandwidth and a 0.64 dB/nm cutoff slope. The transmittance in the passband was 0.97 or greater.
