Abstract
This paper presents a numerical micromagnetic model for an isolated fine particle, which graphically illustrates the magnetization process. A three-dimensional discretization is used to represent a single particle. At each mesh point a magnetization of fixed magnitude is permitted to orient itself so that total energy is minimized. The energy terms considered are the Zeeman energy due to both the externally applied and the demagnetizing fields, the exchange energy and the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy. Iterative methods are used to solve for the variation in the magnetization.
